Chang Lo from Nagaland

Chang Lo is performed by the Chang tribe of Nagaland, in northern India. Men and women both join in to celebrate the harvest season and other festivals. It is also known as the Sua La.

There is no training required for this dance. The group dances in complete synchronization. The costumes are vibrant and the dance portrays a sense of zest for life. Men have warlike costumes, whereas the women have more feminine costumes.

The dancers need training to attain expertise in balancing and coordination.

The dance is accompanied by the dao, spears and shields.

It is commonly mistaken for the very similar Zeliang tribe’s Zeliang Dance.
